East Dulwich, South East London, June 2017
I've been taking les Uprights to The French House in East Dulwich several times, the last one being a recent celebratory dinner.
Located in East Dulwich (a new venue has now opened in Crystal Palace) the The French House was created by Audrey, another French expat who lives and loves the South East. Audrey's dog Brian often makes an appearance at the weekends.
The goal of the eaterie is to offer a fun and relaxed environment. French classics are served with a modern twist (says Papa, I'm too low to see what is going on on the table), wines, cocktails... and draft beer from Camden brewery. All served to the rhythm of French 60's Yéyé design and music, and sometimes live (one of the waitress there dropped her apron to grab a guitar and sing beautifully last year). Menus change monthly to include seasonal products. Children are welcome during the day. Dogs at all time.
This time the humans ordered a mini tarte flambée (flammekueche in German, a very thing pizza dough with a white base and bacon and onion) for starter, and Toulouse sausage with aligot mash (that's mashed potato with cheese) as a main course. And some cocktails and vino for the one not driving.
The food was brilliant and the staff très sympa as usual.
Bone Appétit! ;)
Delicious French food and drinks, great for those nostalgic French humans
Dogs welcome at all times, inside too - you'll get a fuss (or two) and your own "bar à toutou" (doggy bar) bowl filled with fresh water
Le resident dog, Brian the Frenchie
The quirky decor
Buzzing neighbourhood (with a lot of new graffitis, food outlets (my fav is a nearby CHEESE shop))
